Material Properties

A material has the following set of properties.

  • Show material preview in 3D World - Turns on/off a preview of the material in the 3D world.
  • General
    • Name - Defines the name of the material.
    • Texture Scale - Scales all textures of this material by the given value. The larger the value, the smaller the texture appears.
  • Base Color
    • Base Color - Defines the color of the material as a constant.
    • Base Color Texture - Defines a varying color of the material based on the pixel values of the texture. This overrides the constant base color in most cases, however in some cases textures cannot be used, so the constant base color is used instead. Therefore, the constant base color should match this texture as accurately as possible.
  • Roughness
    • Roughness - Defines the roughness of the material as a constant.
    • Roughness Texture - Defines a varying roughness of the material based on the pixel values of the texture. This overrides the constant roughness in most cases, however in some cases textures cannot be used, so the constant roughness is used instead. Therefore, the constant roughness should match this texture as accurately as possible.
  • Metallic
    • Metallic - Defines if the material is a metal or not as a constant.
    • Metallic Texture - Defines where the material is a metal based on the pixel values of the texture[JR5.1]. This overrides the constant metallic value in most cases, however in some cases textures cannot be used, so the constant metallic value is used instead. Therefore, the constant metallic value should match this texture as accurately as possible.
  • Normals
    • Normals Texture - Defines the surface normal as a texture to add detail like scratches, bumps or elevations to the material.
  • Transparency
    • Opacity - Defines how transparent the material is. Transparent materials might look different in external renderers.
    • Index of Refraction - Physical constant that defines how much light is refracted by the material. May affect opaque materials in external renderer
  • Clearcoat
    • Strength - Defines if the material has a clear coat of paint or varnish on top, and how strong the clearcoat effect is. Higher values make the material shinier.
    • Roughness - Defines how rough the clearcoat layer is.
